I like my current job at Jiffy-Lube, but eventually I would like to be a manager. I know the managers make about $12.00 an hour and that would be enough for me to support myself. But if I ever get married and have a family I don’t think that will be enough. Maybe I can do some side work like putting down hardword floors for other people. I like to do stuff like that. I have got to stay healthy to be able to work two jobs and be there for my family, so I am never going to start drinking, smoking, or doing drugs. When I have enough money for a car and a place to live on my own, I may go back to school and get a business degree. I think that will help me move up as a manager. I know I want to be able to support myself and my family and still have enough money to take my family on vacation every now and then.

Sounds like your plan is a good one. Talk with management, let them know you are interested in moving up.
Learn the job well, and perform it as best you can. Keeping skills up in other areas is always a good idea. And you’re right, these bodies have a way of aging, so keeping it clean and healthy is a great part of your plan. Why don’t you try the Functional Transferable Skills inventory on my website and discover the skills you have already in leading people, organizing, as well as the technical skills you are learning on the job. Good luck!
