 Learn the categories and choose those of interest.
 Learn the trends and forecasts for your chosen industry. Note the leaders.  Check your notes for names mentioned for potential contacts.  Check notes for good companies mentioned. Check those for job openings.

 Vocations
 Browse the wide variety and read about those of interest. Compare those to your own.  Research chosen vocation in depth. Research salaries and potential for growth.  Chose people and companies most likely for informational interview.  Follow up on people and companies for job leads.

 Job Descriptions
 Learn skills needed in jobs within vocations of interest  Study jobs in your vocation and select the closest fit.  Talk to someone in a job you have chosen to verify your impressions.  Use job titles in search engines to find companies and job openings.

 Professional Associations
 Look at a variety and choose those you think you would like to visit.  Choose those for your vocation and attend meetings. Listen, observe, learn and meet people.  Contact people you have met at meetings most promising for an informational interview.  Talk to members about job opportunities and follow up.

Professional Journals and Magazines
 Read several. Which ones would you like to read in the future?  Read all those in your vocation. Learn everything you can and note names of people.  Contact people you have read about for informational interview.  Look at the job postings in journals, newspapers and their web sites.

 Education Requirements

 

College Career Service
 Look up courses of study for vocations of interest. Would you enjoy the courses? Does your college career service have professional development programs.  Learn whether you have the skills or need more training. Attend open houses to meet people also interested your field and the professors who teach.  Contact people you have met at open houses. Call your college career center for local alums in your field and a password for JobTrack. Contact them for informational interview.  Pursue best bets from your alum list and inquire about job openings. Talk to professors in field for companies they respect. Search JobTrack.
 Specific Companies or Organizations  Look up those in the industries you like. Would a job in any of them be appealing.  Look at those in your industry. Choose those you like best and research in depth. Look for names of people in your vocation..  Contact people you have read about or met for informational interview.  Check each company's web site for job postings. Write letters and send resume to people you have identified within the company.
